Step 1 - Create a Belfast Met account. New students must create a Belfast Met account using the link below. It is recommended that you create the account before the courses open for registration. Please remember your login details.

Step 2 - Apply for an ESOL course via the link provided below once applications open (applications will close when we have reached our maximum number). Please note: You do not need to come into the college to make your ESOL course application. This can be completed at home on your mobile phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer.

Step 3 - Check your email for instructions on how to complete your online diagnostic assessment.

Step 4 - Enrolment appointment will be sent out to you.

You must be at least 16 years old on 01/07/2024 to study ESOL / ELT at Belfast Metropolitan College from September 2025 – June 2026.

Applications for 25/26 will open on Tuesday 5th August at 2pm.

All new students must complete a diagnostic assessment before the start of the course to check your level of English. Once completed and processed, our ESOL / ELT staff will contact you. The information and link to complete the diagnostic assessment will be sent to your personal email address after your ESOL course application has been submitted.

The College has created a new ESOL hub located in Millfield>.

This campus is right in the centre of Belfast near Castle Court.

Belfast Met was awarded the 1st  College of Sanctuary status in Northern Ireland on 15th May 2019.

Belfast Met has a long history of providing English language courses. 

- The ESOL International qualifications programme is more suitable for those learners who come to Northern Ireland to study English for a specific reason, such as career or academic opportunities. We are proud to have been accredited by the   British Council for the teaching of this programme since 2010. These courses lead to Cambridge International qualifications   such as PET, FCE, CAE and CPE and we also provide IELTS   Academic Preparation courses.

Class size is set at a maximum of 20 students, although the average class size is often lower. Our campuses are well equipped with interactive whiteboards and audio equipment to provide you with the best possible learning experience. 

Our enthusiastic, well-qualified and dedicated team of ESOL/ EFL teachers have experience of teaching both locally and internationally. Many of our teachers have post-graduate level qualifications in English language teaching.

At what age can I start studying at the college?
You must be 16 years old or over on 1 July 2025
 
What if I am not able to read, write or speak English?
You will still need to make an application.
