Leading the City to Work

Belfast Met's award winning Centre for Economic Development and Social Inclusion is dedicated to enterprise, economic development and employability.

Based in the e3 building at the Springvale Campus, a state of the art facility with specialist facilities for industry sectors identified as having growth potential, we are the largest provider of further and higher education and training in Northern Ireland, so our links with business and our understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing organisations of every size and across every sector, is extensive.

We work with numerous local, national and international business support agencies and constantly build on our networks of enterprise organisations and employers.

As a key provider of the skills and knowledge our economy requires, we see our work with industry, business, and local communities as our fundamental role.

Centre for Economic Development and Social Inclusion (CEDSI) offers a range of support programmes to all our customers and partners including:

Business Development:

Developing and delivering a range of reskilling and upskilling programmes to offer bespoke accredited and non-accredited training which helps improve the competitiveness of our business community.

Support for Innovation:

Innovation is critical for Northern Ireland’s success. The College supports various programmes financed by DFE and Invest NI which help businesses embrace innovation. The College can provide training and technical mentoring to achieve an advanced level in adopting and embracing innovation.

Graduate Pre-Employment Programmes:

The College has led on the national award winning Assured Skills Programme funded by DfE for 3 years, placing over 1,000 graduated into employment. The Assured Skills Academy model provides support to FDI clients and companies with ambitious growth plans to create a talent pipeline, preparing graduates for employment.

Community Development and Engagement:

The community Development Team take a proactive approach to working with key stakeholders across the city, to both inform them of opportunities to access college programmes and also to partner on innovative solutions.

Research and Development:

Belfast Met is leading the way in working with businesses to access large scale funds for applied research and development. The College has developed sector leading skills in bidding for and project managing complex funding programmes and has a track record in securing Horizon 2020 funding.

International Development:

Belfast met has supported the development of the international Education Strategy for Northern Ireland and is leading the FE Sector working group to develop a pipeline of opportunities to connect the FE Sector capacity to international markets.

In recognition of the challenges which still remain in tackling long-term unemployment and economic inactivity, the College has a range o access programmes in place financed by ESF and PEACE IV programmes to support the re-engagement of Young People and Adults with the labour market.

Belfast Metropolitan College continues to make choices, working with employers and community partners, which remain focused on Leading the City to Work. The understanding and acceptance of the contribution which the College makes to delivering economic opportunities for individuals and employers and the reach which the institution has across the City Region to support social inclusion activities, has given rise to the decision to establish the Centre of Economic Development and Social Inclusion in Belfast Met.
