It costs nothing to get your Maths, English and ICT qualifications at Belfast Met.

Essential Skills are the most important and useful skills we all need to succeed in education, work and everyday life. At Belfast Met, you can get qualifications in English, Maths and ICT while you are completing your course.

We offer Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2, and ICT at Levels 1 and 2.

Fast Track Courses

Want a fast and free opportunity to upskill? Want to retrain in a different area but don’t have the necessary qualifications. Has the pandemic left you feeling you want to give your children more support with their English, Maths and ICT?

Our blend of face to face and online fast track delivery will allow you to achieve your goals in English, Maths and ICT.

To be accepted onto this programme you must:

  • Be working around a grade D/Level 1 or demonstrate competence in key curriculum areas
  • Pass an assessment in your chosen subject at the appropriate level.

If you are interested in a Fast track in Literacy, Numeracy or ICT you must attend a Reconnect session, where you will be given an insight in to the Initial Assessment process which must be completed before you are admitted to the programme.

Advice & Guidance Sessions

In order to ensure you are enrolled on the best course to suit your needs all potential students are required to attend an advice and enrolment session prior to course entry. An experienced Essential Skills Tutor will be available to assist you in making the right decision and to give guidance on course options.

Advice sessions take place at the College’s Millfield and Castlereagh Campuses and operate on a drop in basis. So, take the first step and come along to one of our sessions. We look forward to meeting with you.
