ESOL Assessment and Enrolment

You must be at least 16 years old to study ESOL/ELT at Belfast Metropolitan College. All new students must be assessed before the start of the course. Our teachers will give you a test to check your level of English and then advise you on the best course for you. 

You have 2 options:

• Part online-based assessment and part paper-based assessment.
or
• Full paper-based assessment.

Part online and part paper-based Assessment

Please follow the instructions below: 

• Request a token to do the part online assessment by sending an email to esolbookings[AT]belfastmet[DOT]ac[DOT]uk and we will reply and give you instructions about how to do the online test. 
• The online test assesses your reading and listening. However you must also come to the College to have your speaking and writing tested. Assessment takes place at the College’s Titanic Quarter Campus. You must book a place online. Our next assessments will take place in January 2020. Assessment bookings will open on Monday 16th December at 12.00pm. Booking name must be the same as appearing on the official documentation provided on the day of the ESOL Assessment. Please email [email protected] if you would like added to our waiting list.

ü  You must bring Photo ID (e.g. valid passport or national identity card) to the assessment session - Please Click Here for further information.

ü  If you have passed an official English exam in the last 12 months, please bring the certificate with you to your ESOL assessment. This will help us to decide on the best class for you.


Full paper-based assessment

You will do the assessment at the College. Assessment takes place at the College’s Titanic Quarter Campus. You must book a place online. Our next assessments will take place in January 2020. Assessment bookings will open on Monday 16th December at 12.00pm. Please Click Here to book. Please be aware that the paper-based assessment bookings are limited.

All students must arrive 10 minutes before the beginning of the session. If you are late, it may not be possible for us to assess you.

All students must bring to the session Photographic ID - Please Click Here for further information.

If you have passed an official English exam in the last 12 months, please bring the certificate with you to your ESOL assessment. This will help us to decide on the best class for you.

Please note that if you enrol on an ESOL course:
                • You are expected to attend all the classes.
                • If you do not attend classes you may not be allowed to complete your course.
                • If you cannot attend one class you must inform your teacher in advance
                • You are expected to sit the examination at the end of the course.
