Belfast Met has a long history of providing English language courses. We offer two types of programmes, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Skills for Life and ESOL International qualifications/EFL Cambridge programme.

  • The ESOL Skills for Life programme is suitable for economic migrants, refugees and asylum seekers who intend to reside in Northern Ireland.
  • The ESOL International qualifications programme is more suitable for those learners who come to Northern Ireland to study English for a specific reason, such as career or academic opportunities. We are proud to have been accredited by the British Council for the teaching of this programme since 2010. These courses lead to Cambridge International qualifications such as PET, FCE, CAE and CPE and we also provide IELTS Academic Preparation courses.

Class size is set at a maximum of 20 students, although the average class size is often lower. Our campuses are well equipped with interactive whiteboards and audio equipment to provide you with the best possible learning experience.

Our enthusiastic, well-qualified and dedicated team of ESOL/ EFL teachers have experience of teaching both locally and internationally. Many of our teachers have post-graduate level qualifications in English language teaching.

Please note that all new students must take an assessment before enrolment can be completed (please go to the ESOL Assessment & Enrolment tab)
