Belfast Met Travel and Tourism student Olivia Millar, who has made the most of the many opportunities available to students whilst studying at the College, picked up a special merit award for outstanding contribution and dedication throughout the programme at the IGNITE awards. She also received an NLP Diploma in Personal and Career Development at the graduation ceremony, held at the Maynard Sinclair Pavilion, Stormont Estate.

Olivia said, “My journey at Belfast Met has been excellent as I’ve been given so many great opportunities that could not be missed, especially the IGNITE Sparking Leadership programme. My tutor Eimear Lenaghan told me about the programme, so I jumped at the chance!

“I attended a panel interview to secure my place on the programme, and luckily was successful. Thanks to the programme I have gained great confidence as an individual along with the ability, to not only work with but also lead a team. Over the course of the 12 month programme I attended monthly masterclasses & workshops at George Best Belfast City Airport, which has enabled me to make new friends along the way as well as preparing for interviews, learning about my own wellbeing, how to cope with stress as a student and create goals for the future.”

The IGNITE International Leadership Programme is an initiative by George Best Belfast City Airport in collaboration with the award-winning youth charity, Cinemagic, the largest film and television festival in UK and Ireland. The year-long programme provides potentially life-changing opportunities for 100 young people over a 5-year period, with 20 young people per year being selected for participation.
