Belfast Met part of funding boost to build zero emissions ferries

Belfast Metropolitan College is one of 13 partners involved in a Belfast Maritime Consortium led by Artemis Technologies that has won a £33 million UK Government innovation grant to develop zero emissions ferries in the city, that will revolutionise the future of maritime transport. With further investment from consortium partners, the total project investment will reach close to £60m over the next four years, creating an initial 125 research and development jobs, and leading to more than 1,000 in the region over the next 10 years.

Staff & Students Win Big at BTEC Awards!

Belfast Met is celebrating the exceptional achievements of lecturers Clare Corey and Richard Spiller as they both received Silver BTEC Tutor of the Year awards, and student Stefanie McCluskey, who received the BTEC Sport Learner of the Year award. Their hard work and dedication was celebrated at the tenth anniversary of Pearson’s annual BTEC Awards hosted online today.

Fitness trainer Sean McShane inspires local community to keep fit during the lockdown

Sean Mc Shane from North Belfast has been able to focus on his love of sport and fitness during the lockdown: “Sport and fitness has played a massive part in my growing up. From my early teens my goal has been to have career in the fitness industry, currently works in a local gym SR Fitness which has been closed during lockdown, and so he has been taking live fitness classes for members and the wider community via Zoom.

Art & Design student's painting selected for Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show

A painting by nineteen year old Art and Design student Ethan Neill from Belfast Met has been selected for the Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show, which opens online from 12 July and will be exhibited at the Royal Academy in London later this year. Ethan's portrait of his Grandad was selected out of over 17,700 entries.
