Sarah bakes her way to success!
September is Bread and Baking month for Northern Ireland Year of Food and Drink. New and different breads are emerging in cafes and bakeries across Northern Ireland and with that is coming a resurgence in baking talent including our own students.
Sarah Devine is currently a level 2 bakery student. Sarah is 33 years of age and decided to return to college last year as a mature student with a view to changing careers.
Prior to embarking on the bakery course Sarah worked in admin for 13 years but she always enjoyed cooking and baking at home. She recently returned from Australia where she spent 3 years doing different jobs.
Quite soon after enrolling on the course, it was evident that Sarah had a flair for baking and was quickly developing a passion for all aspects of the bakery industry. In March 2016 Sarah entered The Great Northern Ireland bake off which was part of the recent IFEX event.
Sarah was competing with professional chefs and bakers and we are delighted to say that not only did she win the first prize but was also announced as the overall best in class. Sarah is sure to have an exciting career in this profession as she has all the attributes needed to succeed-: Passion, drive, determination, attention to detail and above all.....talent.
