Belfast Met’s Head of Finance Gillian Mayhew has been awarded the coveted title of Finance Professional of the Year by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA). The award ceremony took place at the Hilton Templepatrick at a dinner reception for nominees and stakeholders within the public finance and accountancy industry.

Elaine Hartin, Chief Operating Officer of Belfast Met stated –
“The award is a fantastic acknowledgement from CIPFA and I am delighted that Gillian has received it. She has worked hard with her team to develop the College’s financial management and strategy to achieve a standard that has not only stabilised the organisation, but has positioned the college for further growth in the future.”

The award recognises the achievements of a public finance professional in delivering excellence and clear benefits in their own organisation, one or more other organisations in Northern Ireland, or to the public finance profession as a whole, through working together efficiently and effectively.

Gillian has been at the forefront of Belfast Met’s financial management improvement journey since joining the College in 2011. She played a central role in implementing the recommendations in the college recovery plan and has developed a reliable and responsive finance team which is adding significant value to the organisation.

Michael Burton CIPFA Chair shared the reason why Gillian deserved to win -
“Congratulations to Gillian on winning financial professional of the year. Gillian has demonstrated the skills expertise and experience to turn the financial conditions of her organisation around within a climate of fiscal austerity. She has clearly demonstrated the high skill levels required of a public finance professional, providing a level of expertise for others to aspire to.”
