Belfast Met students win at Intercollege Media Competition
Belfast Met’s HND Moving Image students came away with two 1st Place and two 3rd Place awards at the 2018 Intercollege Media Competition, hosted by NWRC.
David Harvey, Matthew Beggs, and David Emery won the fiction film category with their short crime thriller ‘Journal.’ Winning the Factual award was the team of Ryan Rafferty and Mark Rainey for ‘Ireland’s Lost and Found.’ Meanwhile, Peter James Wallace came third in photography with his Budapest travel project, and Thomas McQuillan and Chelsea-Leigh Purdy took away third place in Factual film for their short doc ‘Friendly Neighbourhood Spiderman.’
Thomas Scott, the course co-ordinator remarked “This is a strong group of students who are developing into excellent film makers. Winning (and coming third in factual as well) two of the strongest categories is no mean feat, it is a reflection of their dedication to the craft. Next year we plan on winning the advertising, photography, and animation awards as well.”
Ryan Rafferty, a second year Moving Image student who won the factual film category along with his team mate Mark Rainey has stated “We really enjoyed making ’Ireland’s Lost and Found’, a doc that centres on traditional crafts such as saddle making. Naturally, we are delighted that our film has been recognised at a national student media competition.”
