Belfast Met student wins NI Travel News Student of the Year!
Congratulations to Belfast Met student Lauren Willis on winning the overall Northern Ireland Travel News Student of the Year award on Friday (20th October). The NI Travel News Travel & Tourism Awards where held in the Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle. These awards have been going for 26 years now and it is hailed as the major night for the industry. People come from various countries to attend this event which gives the student an opportunity to meet key members of the industry.
Lauren studied the Foundation Degree in International Travel & Tourism Management finishing at Belfast Met in June 2017. During her course she completed a work placement for the last semester at Hillsborough Castle where they secured her a paid position. Lauren was nominated alongside fellow classmates and initially had to attend an interview with her Curriculum Area Manager, Maureen Gillespie and the Head of School, Christine Brown.
Two Belfast Met students along with nominees from the other colleges in Northern Ireland were put forward for interviews with a panel of key industry members in the Europa Hotel on the 14th September before the overall winner, Lauren, was announced. This new format started last year to select the overall Student of the Year and this is the second year a Belfast Met student has won.
