Lecturer Patrick (Paddy) Roberts received a ‘Local Hero’ Highly Commended Award from the World Skills UK. Local Heroes are supporters of WorldSkills UK who drive their organisation’s involvement in our competitions, helping us to equip young people with lifelong, world-class skills.

Every year, thousands of young people are registered to take part in WorldSkills UK Competitions, but their participation is only possible through the support of committed Local Heroes who promote the benefits of competitions to students, apprentices and senior management. These Local Heroes also give their time to support competitors, putting on additional training competitors and offering pastoral and moral support.

We received many excellent nominations for WorldSkills UK Local Heroes 2017 and, from these, six Highly Commended individuals have been selected.

Paddy was one of six Highly Commended Local Heroes from a pool of 67 nominations and just missed out on the overall prize. Paddy works tirelessly within the College promoting and supporting students entering the Industrial Electronics skills event, with the College taking 1st place two years running and a third in 2016/2017. These students were competing against apprentices from employers such as British Airways, Jaguar and Bae. Well done Paddy!
