Adam’ VFX portfolio recognised with award in The Rookies global contest

Visual Effects student Adam Loughridge’s skill and talent has been recognised with an Excellence Award in the The Rookies of the Year contest this year. His work was judged by practicing professionals in some of the world’s largest Animation/VFX and Games companies, who commended Adam for his high level of work.

Adam, said: “I was delighted to receive this receive this recognition for my work which will really help me with my career. Since completing my HND this summer, I feel ready to follow a career as a professional Visual Effects artist. I’ve now got a great showreel and have been given many opportunities by lecturers and built vital connections other students and professionals working in the industry.

The Visual Effects course gave me the chance to learn the high-level skills and workflows necessary to become a professional in the VFX industry. I really need also to commend the teaching team which has a wide range of industry experience across many disciplines which has provided me with insightful feedback on work so I can achieve the standard expected in today’s industry.

“Throughout the pandemic the lecturers ensured that we still had remote access to the college computers and software from home which was amazing, given the importance of access to these facilities. This really showed me that the teaching team is invested in our progression as they went above and beyond to help us to produce our best work.”

It is a just reward for the determination Adam demonstrated throughout his time studying on the HND Visual Effects here at Belfast Met. The quality of his portfolio in just two years is outstanding and we are delighted that it has been recognised by the industry judging panel of The Rookies. The teaching team and I wish Adam the very best for his future and are looking forward to the next steps he makes within his VFX career."
