North Belfast MLA Nichola Mallon attended the launch of a new programme for suicide awareness and prevention developed by Belfast Met students at the Girdwood Hub in north Belfast last night.

Belfast Met students on the Princes Trust programme joined up with suicide prevention charity PIPs to develop a new training programme on mental health and suicide awareness/prevention.

The young people designed the programme in a way they believe is best suited for their peer group to receive and will remain involved in the delivery and implementation of the project going forward. The programme will be offered to youth groups, schools, colleges etc. throughout Northern Ireland in order to raise much needed awareness around these important issues and to reduce the risk of suicide and self-harm. The launch event was attended by students, PIPS charity and members of the community working with young people who feel this programme may be beneficial to their organisation.
