Belfast Metropolitan College has celebrated the achievements of its Higher Education students at its annual Graduation ceremony which took place in the iconic Titanic Belfast on 15th November.

One of the largest and most prestigious events on our calendar, the celebration welcomed over 1,000 people over two ceremonies, which recognised students from the Belfast Business School; School of Health, Wellbeing and Inclusion; School of Science, Construction and Engineering; School of Creative and Digital Technologies and School of Academic and Continuing Education.

Each year the College awards Honorary Fellowships to someone who has made an outstanding contribution in their area. This year Belfast Metropolitan College conferred two Honorary Fellowship Awards.

The first Honorary Fellowship Award was awarded to Jayne Brady, Head of Northern Ireland Civil Service, in recognition of her innovative approaches to economic and social development throughout Northern Ireland’s Civil Service.

Jayne Brady said: “Belfast Metropolitan College plays a vital role in strengthening economic development, enhancing social cohesion and promoting learning and I am privileged to receive the Honorary Fellowship and to share the celebrations with Dr Iain Percy and my fellow graduands.

“It is a pleasure to share in the success of our future business leaders, scientists, engineers, creative and digital experts and health and well-being specialists. They each have their own unique contribution to make in in taking Northern Ireland’s leading industries to the next level and in building new and exciting opportunities.”
In the second ceremony of the day the Honorary Fellowship Award was awarded to Dr Iain Percy, CEO of Artemis Technologies for his services to the marine industry.

Dr Iain Percy said: “I’m privileged to be recognised for my contribution to the maritime industry and receive an Honorary Fellowship Award from Belfast Metropolitan College. It’s particularly poignant for me to meet so many of the 2022 graduates and receive this award from the College as together, through our apprenticeship scheme partnership, we’re fostering the next generation of talent to create transformative marine technologies.”

Louise Warde Hunter, Principal and Chief Executive of Belfast Metropolitan College said: “Belfast Met is extremely proud of each of our graduates. We would like to thank them for making us their College of Choice to complete this important stage of their educational journey and to congratulate every one of them on their dedication and passion for learning. We are delighted to host a special occasion that allows our graduates to celebrate their achievements with those who have supported and assisted them throughout their studies, from family and friends to lecturers and support staff in the College.

“It is an absolute privilege to award Honorary Fellowships to two truly outstanding individuals. We hope that each of the Honorary Fellows’ commitment to innovation and transformation of the world around them inspire our students as they move onto the next stage of their personal and professional lives.”
