Earlier this year, Belfast Met Professional Cookery Lecturer, Andrew Wasson, boarded a flight to India along with Ben Cochrane, our Level 2 Apprentice from Shu restaurant, to take part in the Young Chef Olympiad 2019 competition.

IIHM YOUNG CHEF OLYMPIAD 2019 is a unique competition event that was held for the fifth time in India. The competition is organized by the International Institute of Hotel Management which is a part of the Indismart Group, a large conglomerate that operates IndiSmart Hotels and offers a wide range of services in the field of Hospitality Management Education Training and Consultancy in India and South East Asia. This competition has become hugely successful in encouraging serious talent in the culinary world amongst class 11 and 12 students across India.

This global competition was a new venture for Belast Met, with Ben and Andrew flying the flag for Belfast Met and for the NI FE sector on the International stage! It was a fabulous experience for Ben, and for Andrew who is already exploring further opportunities emerging from our participation. Ben was positioned 21st out of 60 countries, which was a fantastic achievement for a level 2 Apprentice.
