Before the apprenticeship…
“I was working full time at a music data processing company in Belfast. I went from data processor to team lead and then moved into the HR department.”

Why did you apply…
Through a change of perspective in the working world and her partner's own experience with the Apprenticeship, Rachel started to consider this as a way forward. “Covid changed my views on how the working world could look, at the same time my partner joined Belfast MET and started his journey within the tech industry. After completing his course, I watched how his career developed and it made me reevaluate my own. The tech industry was appealing because it offers a range of opportunities from developing, maintenance, and creating – the career prospects are endless because it is ever evolving!”

On how the programme is going…
“The Level 3 in Software Development involves learning and developing a range of skills that might be needed to grow and develop a career in the industry. To date I have loved making my own web pages and learning how to correct any errors. I especially enjoyed the project management module; learning how to take a project from meeting clients with ideas to completing the objective.”

On the support offered by Belfast Met…
“I contacted Craig from Belfast MET  to find out more about the course. During the conversation I realised I met the essential criteria and this chat helped finalise my decision to apply. I then searched for a placement and got a fantastic opportunity to join Citi. With an unmatched reputation within the tech industry, I was excited to start! I am immensely grateful for the support of Robert, my assessor, for his biweekly check-ins, sharing of information, sending worksheets, support with exam prep and general advice. In my experience the assessors support you throughout the course to get you to where you need to be.

On the support offered by Citi…
“Citi provides up to five paid study days each year, which is particularly useful when prepping for exams.  My manager is  also supportive. She is very approachable, is always on hand to help with any assignments or questions, and makes me feel like she is rooting for my success! She has a wealth of knowledge (better than Google) in the tech industry and always makes time to explain any issues and provides solutions to rectify them in a personable way that I find easy to follow.”

On what the future holds and for anyone considering an apprenticeship…
“I am considering the Level 5 in Cloud & Software Development and following the road map to degree level. My advice to anyone reading this – is “if you are considering an apprenticeship …do it, you won’t regret it!”
