Foundation Degree in Health, Physical Activity and Sport  (Validated by Queens University) (52L7)

Foundation Degree in Health, Physical Activity and Sport is a two-year, full-time course. This course is validated by Queen’s University of Belfast through Stranmillis University College. Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress to year two of the BSc (Hons) Degree in Health, Physical Activity and Sport at Stranmillis University College, or the BA (Hons) Liberal Arts with PE Degree at St. Mary’s University College.

The course seeks to develop health and physical activity excellence through the understanding of several key areas. You will enhance your academic, professional and managerial knowledge and skills that are directly applicable to the health and physical activity sectors.

Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies (Validated by Queens University)

This two-year, full-time course, validated by Stranmillis University College will consist of two days per week in College and two days per week in work placement. This course has been designed to provide you with specialist knowledge and understanding of working with 0-8 year olds. This course focuses on the key theories, concepts and practical skills required to work with this age group in a variety of Early Years' settings.

BSC (Hons) Degree in Social Work (Validated by Ulster University)

This three-year honours degree programme is offered in collaboration with Ulster University. Years one and two are studied at Belfast Met, whilst year three studies are undertaken at Ulster University’s Magee Campus and in practice learning sites.

Although the programme includes underpinning learning in the social sciences, such as social policy, psychology, sociology and law, the focus of the programme is on the development of skills, values and knowledge required for social work practice.

In year one you must successfully complete a preparation for practice skills module prior to undertaking supervised practice learning on placement. You will undertake two practice placements – in year two this will last for 85 days and in year three it will last for 100 days.

Foundation Degree in Biological Sciences (Validated by Queens University) (UCAS Ref - C101) 

This two-year, full-time course will provide you with a sound knowledge and understanding of the biological sciences. You will undertake study in a broad range of subjects, including Fundamentals of Science, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Genetics and Ecology & Environmental Biology.

Development of your practical skills will be a priority and you will gain experience of techniques such as gel electrophoresis, tissue culture, HPLC, GC-MS and spectroscopy.

Foundation Degree in Chemical Sciences (Validated by Queens University) (UCAS Ref - F101)

This two-year full-time course will provide you with a sound knowledge and understanding of the chemical sciences. You will develop a wide range of practical skills gain direct experience of techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS and infra-red spectroscopy. 

You will be assessed through practical laboratory work, courses/coursework and written examinations. Your learning will be supported by tutorial-style teaching and will require a commitment to independent study. A minimum attendance of 80% is expected on all aspects of the course.

Please note this course includes a mandatory work placement which takes place during June – August.

Foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Validated by Queens University) (UCAS Ref - H302) 

This two-year course is offered in collaboration with Queen’s University and students are enrolled at both the College and Queen’s University and have all the main entitlements as other undergraduate students at the University.

The majority of man-made products are mechanical or have mechanical parts, and mechanical engineers are to be found working in virtually every type of industry, on products as diverse as racing cars, jet engines, cruise ships, farm machinery, sports equipment and domestic appliances.
