Courtney completes Swimathon to raise funds for Marie Curie

Published: 3 September 2020

Courtney Stuart recently passed her Level 3 Personal Training Boxing Academy course at Belfast Met during lockdown and completed a charity swim challenge in aid of Marie Curie to raise £500.

Courtney explained how she had prepared for the swimming challenge during the lockdown, “I passed my Level 2 Fitness Instructing Course at Belfast Met and have just completed my Level 3 Personal Training course there. During the lockdown I did my own preparation for the swim, as well as plenty of walking. I’d like to thank my friends, family and tutors who donated to my sponsored swim, and am really happy to have been able to support Marie Curie in this way.”

John Mulhern, Sports Studies lecturer at Belfast Met who taught Courtney said, ”We are extremely proud of Courtney's fundraising effort, this is a great achievement for her and shows a high level of commitment and dedication, especially during these taxing times.”
Courtney was a competitive swimmer and had taken part in group charity swims when she lived in Scotland, so this was her first solo charity swim. With pools and leisure centres open again, Courtney was delighted to take part in Lisburn, the closest pool to her that is registered with UK Swimathon where she completed 100 laps, a total of 2,500 metres.

Gavin McGucken, Community Fundraiser at Marie Curie who was presented with the donation said, “We would like to say well done and a huge thank you to Courtney for supporting Marie Curie. We really appreciate the support; the wonderful amount of money raised will help ensure that people living with a terminal illness in Northern Ireland get the care and support they need.”
