Melissa Shares her experience of studying Children's Care, Learning & Development

My name is Melissa Galbraith and I previously completed Children’s Care, Learning and Development Level 3 at Belfast Met.

When I decided on a change of direction I began working for a daycare. In order to be fully qualified for the role, I had to undertake this course, which I chose to do part time. The course was twice weekly at night, which was great as it allowed me to continue working full time.

The course was well organised and paced, completely manageable alongside a job and I found everything I was learning to be relevant for my post. One class was focused on research with access to computers, whilst the other was an opportunity to discuss and debate, using case studies and more.

The tutors were great, approachable and friendly as well as super knowledgeable. They were easy to contact out of class for any queries. I found them to be supportive and understanding, creating a positive environment for the students to learn in and be comfortable with each other.

Completing the course gave me more confidence in my job role as I had a solid knowledge base going forwards. This helped me achieve the post of Group Co-Ordinator the year after I finished the course. My group (3-4 preschool with 22 children per day) has now moved to its own new building, which I co-ordinate on a daily basis.

The CCLD Level 3 course is definitely one that I would recommend completing with Belfast Met as I felt it provided me with everything I needed to progress in my field and I hope to achieve my Level 5 in the coming year.
