Louise Warde Hunter, Principal and Chief Executive at Belfast Met, confirmed: “It is my great pleasure to congratulate our Class of 2021 graduates who have persevered and remained committed to their studies in the face of adversity. We are immensely proud of what our students have achieved as studying has been that much harder during Covid. Our students are what makes our College as special as it is, and I wish our graduates every success for the future as they embark on the next stages of their careers.”
Simon Carmichael, 34 from Belfast, is a Psychology graduate who came to the College to train as a therapist on the Foundation Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, for which they have received a distinction. Simon, said:
“I am delighted to be graduating from Belfast Met. As a trade union representative and activist in my main job, I have found that my Foundation Degree has massively added value to my day job which involves working with people struggling with mental health issues in the workplace. I've met tutors with a wealth of academic and professional expertise and had the pleasure of studying along-side a passionate and capable cohort that was always there to help one another. I have been given opportunities for professional development because of my training at Belfast Met, and plan to go on to do a Masters in the not too distant future, and am considering a career in teaching.”
Lauren McAslan, 20 from Comber, has graduated with distinction in her HND in Creative Media Production in Film.
Lauren also completed her Level 3 Creative Media Production for Film and Television at Belfast Met before progressing to do her HND and is now working as a Junior Editor with a local film company.
“During my time at the College one of my favourite aspects was the friends I've made and the network I've established with other creatives, because without them I couldn't have achieved any of my goals or progressed into the career of Assistant Editor. While I'm excited to see what the future holds, I'll miss my time at Belfast Met and will always reflect on the memories I've made here, the adventures I've had and the fun interactive lectures that I got to attend with industry professionals”.
