Belfast Met Hosts Worldskills Inclusive Skills Catering Competition
WorldSkills UK is a partnership between businesses, education and Governments that accelerates young people’s careers giving them the best start in work and life. They achieve this through three core programmes, one of which is Champions.
This is a programme of competitions aimed at driving up technical and employability skills. These are showcased at local, national and international level. Belfast Met was delighted to host the first of its kind in Northern Ireland, Inclusive Skills Catering Competition, for students with learning disabilities with the heat is taking place in the Vienna Room, on Friday 31st May at our Castlereagh campus. Competitors from Belfast Met and SRC took part for a place in the final at The Skills Show NEC which will be held in November 2019.
Head of Department for Health, Wellbeing and Inclusion, Sharon Rivers said: ‘’ Belfast Met is delighted to be hosting the first NI Regional heats of the Inclusive Skills Catering competition. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our supported learning students to develop industry standard skills and compete with students from other colleges to showcase their skills. Its fantastic to see their development and success. Congratulations and very well done to all our students competing.’’
Designed and judged by industry experts, the Competitions equip apprentices and students with the world-class skills needed to help UK businesses better compete globally.
This is Inclusive Skills: Catering Competition will test competitor’s knowledge and skills in the following areas: health and safety, hygiene, knife skills, use of equipment, presentation skills and knowledge of flavour combinations.
