Belfast Met’s Centre for Supported Learning has been recognised as ‘Highly Commended’ at the 2023 Open College Network NI Learning Endeavour Awards.

The Centre has surpassed expectations and advanced learning through innovation by creating a digital platform called BOOP that helps meet the needs of students who have severe learning difficulties. The Supported Learning team developed an innovative solution that will support students learning, increase student engagement and makes learning accessible and enjoyable to all.

The Centre for Supported Learning at Belfast Met provides students with severe learning difficulties who may struggle to access e-portfolio platforms.

Through collaboration and a joint team effort the Centre for Supported Learning, the College’s internal IT team and a local development company, Limejar, created an app that allows students to complete their portfolios digitally, access their timetables and receive push notifications of important information and College announcements.

Belfast Met Curriculum Area Manager for Supported Learning, Michael Patterson said: "We are thrilled to have been recognised as Highly Commended in the Advancing Learning through Innovation category at the OCN Learning Endeavour Awards. This accolade highlights our commitment to creating an inclusive and innovative learning environment.

“It is truly amazing to see all our students utilising the digital platform to successfully complete their qualifications. This achievement is a testament to the exceptional dedication and hard work of our team in delivering quality education for every student."
