Qualifications
NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care (601/8854/6)
OCN NI Level 2 Certificate in Transversal Skills (610/1466/7)
Overview
Please note there are two potential pathways to completing the Level 2 Diploma – the pathway will be determined by GCSE grades/equivalents and tutors will stream students accordingly.
The comprehensive fast track one-year full-time route equips students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to provide care for adults across a variety of health and social care settings. You will study engaging theory and hands-on subjects including infection control, supporting people with dementia and brain injuries amongst others. Key topics include communication, person-centred care, duty of care, equality and safeguarding.
Students are required to secure a mandatory placement (approximately 8 hours per week) in a suitable adult health and social care setting such as a nursing home, day centre, or supported living environment. Placements give students the opportunity to apply theory to practice and work directly with service users as well a range of health and social care staff. Placements must be secured prior to Halloween to ensure students meet the criteria for sufficient practical experience.
This course will also include completion of OCN qualification in Transversal Skills.
If you are interested in the fast track one year course you must apply to this separately. To apply for the fast track one-year full-time please click here
The two-year full- time route is a less intensive pathway on to the Level 2 Diploma for those students who do not meet the enhanced criteria for the Fast Track. In Year 1 of this route students will complete a Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Health and Social care, alongside Literacy and Numeracy. First year will introduce students to the health and social care sector; helping students explore potential career paths and gain a clear understanding of the sector’s service provision. Students will also learn about professional standards, workplace expectations, and the skills and qualities required to succeed in health and social care roles. Examples of topics covered include communication, healthy lifestyles, sensory loss, and mental health. There is no requirement for placement in year 1.
In year 2 students will study the Level 2 Diploma in Health and social care which will equip them with the knowledge and practical skills needed to provide care for adults across a variety of health and social care settings. You will study engaging theory and hands-on subjects including infection control, supporting people with dementia and brain injuries amongst others. Key topics include communication, person-centred care, duty of care, equality and safeguarding. Placement begins in Year 2 and students are required to secure a placement (approximately 8 hours per week) in a suitable adult health and social care setting such as a nursing home, day centre, or supported living environment. Placements give students the opportunity to apply theory to practice and work directly with service users as well a range of health and social care staff. Placements must be secured prior to Halloween to ensure students meets the criteria for sufficient practical experience.
Year 2 will also include completion of OCN qualification in Transversal Skills.
