Overview

This wide-ranging one-year full time course covers the skills and knowledge needed to care for adults in a range of health and social care settings. You will study interesting theory and practical subjects such as working with people with a learning disability, dementia, brain injury etc. You will learn about person centred care, equality and safeguarding as well as aspects of health and safety and infection control.

Students are required to find placement (approx. 8 hours per week) in a suitable adult health and social care setting e.g. nursing home, day centre, supported living. This must be secured early in first semester.

It is the main qualification required by the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC), the regulatory body for care in Northern Ireland, and therefore is widely recognised by employers.
