Belfast Met Collaboration with European Colleges

Dr. Thomas Scott, Lecturer and Course Co-Ordinator in Creative Media, oversees the design of the curriculum for the project. He explains, “The Live skills project aims to help tackle skills shortages in the Creative and Cultural sector, in particular, the Audio Visual and Live Performance sub-sectors. The Creative and Cultural Sector is a key growth area in Europe, but often it is the case that cultural professionals, such as sound engineers and film editors, need help with soft skills and business skills. The Live Skills project aims to address any skills gaps in order to drive the sector to sustainable growth.”
Angeline Kelly, international projects executive, has been coordinating the project on behalf of Belfast Met. She is excited to meet the partners: “I speak to our vocational education partners in Romania, Greece, Bulgaria and Belgium on a regular basis and I look forward to meeting them all face-to-face. My job has primarily involved ensuring that the partners deliver their part of the curriculum on time and to the highest quality.”
The driving force behind Belfast Met’s involvement in the project is Glen McMahon, who manages the international office: “Belfast Met’s international office is a hub of international activity. Not only do we provide courses for more than 600 asylum seekers and refugees from 100 countries across the world, but we have given hundreds of students and dozens of members of staff the opportunity to travel and widen their horizons through European Erasmus projects. We hosted the first Live Skills meeting in January 2017 in Belfast and we are pleased to have seen lots of progress since that time.”
