This course is almost completely online. You attend your classes from home, logging into each class in turn, following the standard timetable. So you should not need to attend campus very often, if at all. You will however need a Windows PC or laptop to join us. (Note - some of the software we use will NOT run on an Apple device).

As well as the compulsory academic modules (maths, science etc) we will also be covering:

● Automation i.e. PLC programming via Ladder Logic and Function Block Diagram
● HMI (industrial touchscreen) programming and design
● PLC communication networks
● Robotics
● Prototyping of circuits and computer simulation of circuit design

This course is aimed at those presently employed, or those wishing to become employed within (or advance through) the electrical /electronic industries. Attendance is one day per week. You do NOT necessarily need to be presently employed to undertake this course.

The course runs 1 day per week, over 2 / 3 years.
● Years 1 & 2 - Level 4 HNC
● Year 3 - Level 5 HND

Year 1 (HNC Level 4)
● 4 units studied
● Attendance 9am - 5pm

Year 2 (HNC Level 4)
● 5 units studied
● Attendance 9am - 6:30pm

Year 3 (HND top-up Level 5)
● 7 units studied
● Attendance 9am - 8pm

Requirements

Level 4 HNC Year 1 - To join you must have:
● NC / ONC (L3 Diploma / Ext Diploma) in Electrical & Electronic Eng, or
● An 'A' Level in a relevant technical subject, or
● Be presently employed within this area as an electrical / electronic engineer / technician

Level 5 HND Yr3 - To join you must have:
● Already completed our HNC in Elec Eng (i.e. years 1 &2 above) It is not usually possible to jump into year 3 with an HNC from another college.

APL allows you to use evidence from prior learning or experience to gain entry onto a course at Belfast Met. Belfast Met will work with you to make sure that relevant learning or work experience is formally recognised through the APL Process.
