Learning starts everywhere
Belfast Met works collaboratively with community organisations across Belfast to bring accessible, introductory learning directly into local communities.
From digital confidence and AI to employability and creative skills, these programmes are designed to make learning welcoming, practical and relevant. For many participants, they provide an important first step back into learning; building confidence, sparking curiosity and opening pathways to further development.
Greenway Women’s Centre
Small steps. New skills. Growing confidence
Belfast Met brought Learning City into Greenway Women’s Centre with friendly, practical sessions designed to make digital learning accessible.
Participants explored AI for everyday life, discovering how it can support tasks such as schoolwork and image creation, while a further Basic IT workshop introduced essential computer skills, internet use and online safety.
The informal setting allowed learners to ask questions, learn at their own pace and build confidence.
The result? Participants left keen to learn more; showing how a short introduction can be the first step on a much bigger learning journey.
Conway Education Centre
From digital basics to discovering AI
Participants at Conway Education Centre took part in three Learning City workshops covering Basic IT, AI for Daily Life and AI for Work.
Learners explored practical ways technology and AI can support everyday tasks, job searching and employment, while also developing their understanding of staying safe online. The sessions were practical, accessible and designed to take some of the mystery out of technology.
What came next? Learners told us they wanted to continue developing their digital skills – exactly what Learning City is about: sparking curiosity and opening the door to further learning.
Women’sTEC
Digital skills. Employability. Confidence to take the next step.
Learning City sessions at Women’sTEC combined Basic IT, Introduction to AI and Employability, giving participants practical skills they could use in everyday life and the workplace.
Alongside developing digital confidence, learners received hands on support with CV development, interview preparation and interview techniques, with individual guidance available throughout. Participants particularly valued the relaxed atmosphere, personalised support and opportunity to learn alongside others.
Sometimes the first step into learning is simply gaining the confidence to try something new.
Donegall Pass Community Forum
From “Can I do this?” to “What can I do next?”
A six week Basic IT Skills programme delivered through Donegall Pass Community Forum helped participants build practical digital skills and, just as importantly, confidence.
Learners developed skills in computer basics, files and folders, internet use, email, online safety and Microsoft Word within a familiar and supportive community environment. For some, it was their first step back into learning.
And the best outcome? Some participants have already signed up for further Digital Skills learning.
That is Learning City in action – bringing learning into communities and creating pathways to what comes next.
Greater Village Regeneration Trust
Create it. Share it. Build your digital confidence.
Working with Greater Village Regeneration Trust, Belfast Met developed a practical Digital Content Creator programme focused on the skills people increasingly use to communicate online.
Learners explored Canva design, social media content, Instagram and Reels, branding and content planning, creating their own digital content throughout the programme.
From designing posters and social graphics to understanding audiences and online identity, participants developed practical creative skills they could continue using beyond the course.

Happy Women’s Centre Belfast
Everyday digital skills. Real life confidence.
Belfast Met is working alongside Happy Women’s Centre Belfast to deliver a six week Digital Confidence & Everyday IT Skills programme through Learning City.
Learners are developing practical skills in Microsoft Word, email and internet use, online safety, Excel and PowerPoint, before bringing everything together in a final digital project.
Whether creating a household budget, preparing a job application or designing something for a community activity, the focus is on skills with a practical purpose.
It is another example of Belfast Met taking learning into the heart of the community – making that first step into learning welcoming, relevant and achievable.
