Level Two Traineeship in Creative Media (600/6099/2)
Overview
This is a one-year, full-time course. OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Media (Video Games) has been developed to enable learners to introduce the skills and knowledge relevant to the video computer games industry.
These courses provide a theory and practical based qualification, which will enable progression to further study or training to a Level 3 course. This course is designed to give you an introduction into the exciting computer games industry sector by studying a video game mass media product. Other modules include animation, graphic design, video game cinematics, photography and video game audio creation using various Adobe Suite industry standard software applications.
There is also a video game design module the industry standard software Unreal Engine.
The qualification is equivalent to four GCSEs.
The core units provide a broad overview of the video game industry while the optional units build on this by providing a more in-depth exploration of production techniques.
In addition to the course curriculum, we provide dedicated support to achieve Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy, essential for employment across diverse sectors.

Entry criteria for this course are:
You should have all least three points at Level 2 and have completed a programme of general education to Key Stage 4.
Non-academic course entry requirements
Important: All applicants must also meet the following conditions:
- be 16 years old by 1 July 2026.
- provide proof of:
- Right to Study in the UK. For courses with work placement, proof of your right to work in the UK is also required.
- Photographic proof of identity
- Provide translated copies of and/or demonstrate equivalency of non-UK qualifications.

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) for FE Courses
APL allows you to use evidence from prior learning or experience to gain entry onto a course at Belfast Met. Belfast Met will work with you to make sure that relevant learning or work experience is formally recognised through the APL Process. The course is assessed through a variety of assignments, case studies, and individual and team projects. If required, you will also undertake Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy. This programme of study is likely to include enrichment units which are an additional component to enhance your employability.

Currently the UK has over 2100 active games companies working to deliver experiences on a wide range of platforms including PC, Console, Mobile and more recently through Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. It is one of the most exciting and innovative areas in computing today.
An OCR Level 2 Diploma prepares you for entry level employment and provides a good foundation to progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Games Development/IT or a wide range of disciplines.
