This two-year, full-time course will provide you with a sound knowledge and understanding of Biomedical Sciences. Development of your practical skills will be a priority and you will gain experience in a range of techniques such as gel electrophoresis, tissue culture, HPLC, GC-MS and spectroscopy. You will be assessed through practical laboratory work, coursework and written examinations. Your learning will be supported by tutorial-style teaching and will require a commitment to independent study. A minimum attendance of 80 % is expected on all aspects of the course. This programme is designed in collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast and the content of the  Foundation Degree reflects Stage 1 content of the BSc’ programmes in Biomedical Science and Human Biology.

Further modules provide a sound background to other fundamental areas of Science that will provide the foundations of general scientific knowledge moving forward. 
The Foundation Degree in Biomedical Sciences includes a mandatory work placement which takes place during June-August after the first year.
On completion of the Foundation Degree successful students may apply to become registered Science Technicians.
Students who successfully complete the Foundation Degree with an overall weighted mark of 55% and in addition, at least 55% in each module assessed in final year will be eligible to progress to the BSc degree programmes in Biomedical Science or Human Biology at the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences at Queen’s University Belfast.

CC at A-level including Biology and Chemistry + GCSE Mathematics grade C/4
OR
BC at A-level to include Biology or Chemistry at grade B and a further science subject from the list below + GCSE Biology and Chemistry grade C/4 or GCSE Double Award Science grades CC/4,4 + GCSE Mathematics grade C/4.

A-level Science subjects accepted: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, ICT (not Applied), Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Technology & Design. Other subjects will be considered on an individual basis and you should contact the Admissions and Access Service for guidance (admissions@qub.ac.uk).
