Bakery Level 2
Overview
This one-year course is suitable for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in a bakery environment, it is designed to give students the opportunity to work in the bakery industry and will also equip you with the knowledge and skills to improve employment prospects.
The qualification covers mandatory bakery skills in areas like mixing, processing, baking, finishing and presenting bakery products. The course also includes theory work to back up the practical knowledge gained in the College’s state of the art bakery kitchen. Topics covered include:
- Bakery Food Safety
- Developing skills in processing bread using various bread making processes
- Developing skills in processing various confectionery and pastry making processes
- Theory principles for bakery ingredients and processing methods to support the practical skills.
As well as developing the skills and knowledge required to succeed in a career in baking, this course will also provide you with access to key employers through the College’s excellent industrial relationships.
If required, you may also be able to undertake the study of Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy, for those who have not achieved level 2 or equivalent in these subjects.
Work based learning is a fundamental element and a placement is essential.
This programme of study is likely to include additional enrichment activities/module(s) which are included to enhance your employability.

Entry criteria for this course are listed below:
- Applicants are required to hold 4 GCSE’s Grade A-G, with a minimum of D in Math and English.
Proof of qualifications MUST be provided when you enrol, e.g., exam certificates.
Achieved and pending qualifications can be recorded now by logging into your online application account.
All courses within Belfast Met are delivered and assessed in English, apart from language-specific courses. Your competence in English must be verified prior to enrolling on your chosen course.
Entry requirements can change and be discussed on an individual basis if necessary.
In the event of undersubscription, course criteria may be lowered.

All fees are set in accordance with DfE regulations.
This course tuition fee is fully funded by the Department for the Economy.
Students are required to supply their own kit, approximate cost £150.00. Lists of kit requirements will be given once student is enrolled.
Assessment will be carried out in the form of building a portfolio of evidence.
Careers
Upon successful completion you may seek employment in the bakery industry, or you may progress to further study. Successful completion of this course may also provide students with the opportunity to progress into other employment within the hospitality industry producing bread, confectionery items and savoury goods. You may want to work in a home bakery, Coffee shop, craft bakery or a large bakery which makes mass-produced goods.
