Overview

This one-year course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills that are required to work in the travel and tourism industry. The course will include visits to tourist attractions and destinations and will allow you to gain first-hand experience of the industry.  Students will engage with a variety of travel and tourism organisations, explore different job roles, and have the opportunity to participate in a range of funded and self-funded trips and gain some industry experience.

The programme is for one year and requires attendance in college for one day and in a workplace 3-4 days per week. The qualification consists of one competency-based diploma and one knowledge-based certificate.

Units are industry focused and will enable students to prepare for a career in travel and tourism.  The units may change from year to year and would typically include for example:  

  • Worldwide travel and tourism destinations
  • Customer Service
  • Principles of marketing for travel and tourism
  • Travel Insurance
  • Communicating and advising customers of information which impacts their travel arrangements

This programme of study is likely to include additional enrichment activities which are included to enhance your employability.

Requirements

Minimum entry requirements are pre-defined by the College’s admissions criteria, which can be found by visiting our entry criteria page on this link

Enhanced entry criteria for this course is:

  • 4 GCSEs A-C Grade including Maths, English Language and ICT. Equivalent qualifications may be accepted e.g. essential skills.

Please note this qualification is delivered and assessed in English. It is therefore essential that learners who do not have English as their first language hold a minimum of a level 2 ESOL qualification in written and spoken English.

Proof of qualifications MUST be provided when you enrol, e.g., exam certificates.

Achieved and pending qualifications can be recorded now by logging into your online application account.

All courses within Belfast Met are delivered and assessed in English, apart from language-specific courses. Your competence in English must be verified prior to enrolling on your chosen course.

This course tuition fee is fully funded by the Department for the Economy. 

Students will visit different attractions as part of the course, some of which will be at an additional cost of approximately £20.00.
