OCN NI Level 2 Certificate in Transversal Skills (610/1466/7)

Overview

This one-year course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills that are required to work in the travel and tourism industry. This course is broadly equivalent to 5 GCSE’s.  The course will include visits to tourist attractions and destinations and will allow you to gain first-hand experience of the industry.  Students will engage with a variety of travel and tourism organisations, explore different job roles, and have the opportunity to participate in a range of funded and self-funded trips and gain some industry experience.

The programme consists of specialist units that are industry focused and will enable students to prepare for a career in travel and tourism.  The units may change from year to year and would typically include for example: 

  • Travel and Tourism Industry
  • Customer Service
  • Airline and Airport Services
  • Global Holiday Destinations
  • Working in Cruise Services

Essential Skills Level 2 qualifications in Literacy, Numeracy and a Level 2 in Transversal Skills are also part of the programme of study.

This programme of study is likely to include additional enrichment activities/module(s) which are included to enhance your employability.

Requirements

Academic course entry requirements

You must hold a minimum of a Level 1 qualification, defined as four GCSEs at grades D to G including Maths grade E and English grade D or equivalent.

Non-academic course entry requirements

Important: All applicants must also meet the following conditions:

  • be16 years old by 1 July 2026. 
  • provide proof of: 

§ Right to Study in the UK. For courses with work placement, proof of your right to work in the UK is also required. 

§ Photographic proof of identity 

  • Provide translated copies of and/or demonstrate equivalency of non-UK qualifications.

Proof of qualifications MUST be provided when you enrol e.g. exam certificates.

Achieved and pending qualifications can be recorded on your online application account.

All courses within Belfast Met are delivered and assessed in English, with the exception of language specific courses. Your competence in English must be verified prior to enrolling on your chosen course.

This course tuition fee is fully funded by the Department for the Economy. 

Students will visit different attractions as part of the course, some of which will be at an additional cost of approximately £20.00.
