Overview

This new creative media course is an intensive, practical and skill focused program. From 2D design to 3D modelling, this course will develop your skills and understanding of concepts relating to the animation industry.

Students will be guided through the animation process; from concept through to distribution, including specific workshops in essential skill building, incorporating 2D and 3D animation, 3D modelling, and compositing.

Students will have the opportunity to understand various specialisms, the history of animation, and develop core art and design skills, under the guidance of animation industry professionals.

By the completion of the Digital Art and Animation Course, students will leave with industry connections, professional experience through project work/live briefs, and an online professional portfolio. 

Core areas assessed will be based around informing ideas, problem solving, technical skills, professional practice, and communication

Over the two years on the course, you will work on several projects, focusing on narrative driven animation.

You will be taught using the latest, and leading, industry standard applications including:

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe After Effects
  • Adobe Premiere
  • Adobe XD
  • Toon Boom Animation Software
  • Unreal Game Engine
  • Autodesk suite using 3DSMax or Maya

Content covered over the two years will harness your skills in areas including:

  • Art & Design
  • Character and Environment Design
  • 2D Development
  • 3D Development
  • Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality
  • Individual / Group Projects
  • Understanding the Animation Industry
  • Portfolio Development

During your time on the course, you will be given access to high-end development workstations, industry-level software, Augmented Reality devices, Virtual Reality systems, 360 Capable VR cameras, DSLR/Video Cameras, and sound production/lighting equipment as part of the projects you work on.

This course is assessed through 100% coursework and is equivalent to three A Levels in size.

Enhanced entry criteria for this course is:

Applicants must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or equivalent

Assessment

The course is 100% coursework focused and will combine both theory and practical elements. If required, you will also undertake Essential Skills in Literacy and/or Numeracy.
