Overview

The ILM Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management is a nationally recognised qualification designed for aspiring and practising middle managers who want to develop their leadership capabilities and improve organisational performance.

The programme focuses on key management skills such as leading and motivating teams, managing change, strategic planning, operational effectiveness, communication, coaching and mentoring, and decision-making

Learners are encouraged to apply leadership theories and management techniques to real workplace situations, enabling them to build confidence, enhance their ability to influence others, and drive business results.

The qualification is highly practical, combining academic understanding with workplace application, making it valuable for professionals looking to progress into more senior management and leadership roles.

By participating in this ILM level 5 Award in Leadership & Management, participants will gain knowledge and skills through:

Unit 1 - Becoming an Effective Leader - encouraging learners to reflect on their own leadership strengths and areas for development, helping them build a personal leadership approach that enables them to motivate and influence others more effectively.

Course Days & Times

The ILM level 5 in Leadership & Management will run over nine weeks, on-line.

It will commence on Tuesday 27th October 2026 and be completed on Tuesday 22^nd December 2026.

Requirements

The ILM Level 5 Leadership & Management qualification is designed for current and aspiring middle managers who want to strengthen their leadership capability and prepare for greater responsibility within their organisation.

It is particularly suited to those leading teams, managing projects, or overseeing operational performance and who are looking to develop the strategic thinking, communication, and people management skills required of effective leaders.

While there are no formal academic entry requirements, participants are typically working in, or aspiring to, management roles and bring valuable workplace experience that allows them to apply their learning to real organisational challenges

The ILM Level 5 qualification is assessed through two written assignments where participants are required to apply leadership and management theory to real workplace challenges, demonstrating their ability to lead teams, manage performance, and contribute to organisational success.
