Overview

This exciting new programme is designed for fitness professionals who already hold a Level 2 Fitness / Gym Instructing or equivalent qualification.


The course is internationally recognised and gives entry to CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) at Level 3.

About this course

The course you will be enrolled on is the Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training

These are the units you will undertake;

  • Professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers
  • Programme design and delivery for personal training
  • Encouraging positive health and fitness behaviours in clients
  • Understanding lifestyle, health, wellbeing and common medical conditions
  • The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health
  • Applied anatomy and physiology for exercise, health and fitness

As a qualified Personal Trainer, you will be able to:

  • Deliver one-to-one or small group personal training sessions with clients
  • Design and implement exercise programmes for a range of individual clients
  • Learn different motivational strategies and how to utilise fitness testing and nutritional intervention programmes
  • You will also learn about how to market your services and develop a sound business acumen which will equip you for the fitness industry
Requirements

Requirements are pre-defined by the College's admissions criteria.

In addition, students must hold a valid Level 2 Certificate in Fitness/ Gym Instructing or equivalent and be able to forward a copy of the certificate to the college PRIOR to the course commencing. Please note only valid certificates will be accepted.

Students should be aged 16 plus and ideally some experience of gym-based exercises including free weights. Students should be fit enough to cope with physical exertion and individual participation involved in the course.

Important Information

Teaching is for 2 weeks (14 consecutive days), starting from Monday 15th June 2026.

Enrolment for this course session closes: Friday 5th June 2026

 

The course manual and start letter will be sent 1 week  before the course commences to allow for some blended learning, students will be expected to undertake some home study, which will include completing worksheets, and research tasks. Any students that enrol within 7 days of the course start date will still be expected to complete the aforementioned home study.

 

There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication at Level 2. Students need to have the required competence to complete work at home every evening in the form of written worksheets or revising for exams for the duration of the course.

 

Element of the course involve research tasks that are required to be submitted before the end of the 14 days teaching. Consent is usually required for students to be contactable before, during, and after the course duration from college staff.

 

The practical assessments will take place at a mutually agreeable time a minimum of 2 weeks after the delivery of the course.

 

Please note that you are required to provide your own client for the practical assessment.

 

Students need to have the ability to complete work at home every evening in the form of written worksheets or revising for exams for the duration of the course.

The Centre for Inclusive Learning supports students with a disability, learning difficulty and/or long term medical condition.  To make a disclosure please complete the Learning Support Referral Form (LS1) available from the College website.

 

If you are enrolling on an intensive course you are required to complete and submit an LS1 form and to contact CILD at least 30 working days prior to the course start date, to allow adequate time to discuss what support options may be available. It is also advisable to speak with the Curriculum team so you are fully aware of the demands of an intensive course.

Assessment

Assessment is through a range of practical observations, exams, case studies/ worksheets and a portfolio.
