Overview
This one-year programme will provide you with a range of Internationally recognised qualifications, enabling you to gain employment in the health and fitness industry or develop your career as a fitness professional. In semester 1, you will complete the Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing, and if successful, you will then progress onto the AIQ Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training in semester 2. You will also develop useful skills in marketing and business acumen, which will help you set up your own business in personal training.

Non-academic course entry requirements
Important: All applicants must also meet the following conditions:
- be 16 years old by 1 July 2026.
- provide proof of:
- Right to Study in the UK. For courses with work placement, proof of your right to work in the UK is also required.
- Photographic proof of identity
- Provide translated copies of and/or demonstrate equivalency of non-UK qualifications.

Enhanced entry criteria for this course is:
- Four GCSEs at Grade C or above
- Applicants with qualifications equating to 12 points with a minimum of 3 GCSE will be accepted
- First Diploma/Cert with profile equivalent to 12 points
- NVQ 2 in relevant subject
- Leaving Certificate equivalent to 12 points
Entry requirements can change and be discussed on an individual basis if necessary.
Proof of qualifications MUST be provided when you enrol e.g. exam certificates.
Achieved and pending qualifications can be recorded on your online application account.
All courses within Belfast Met are delivered and assessed in English, with the exception of language specific courses. Your competence in English must be verified prior to enrolling on your chosen course.

Assessment is through a range of practical observations, external and internal exams, case studies and a portfolio.
Careers
Successful students on the Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training can progress to the AIQ Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy.
This programme will equip you with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career as an advanced personal trainer, health and fitness consultant, or health club manager.
