Overview

This one-year qualification is for applicants who are keen to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and or career progression. The qualification covers all aspects of food and beverage service supervision. The qualification will deliver the key skills required by the learner to ensure they will have a thorough understanding of the role and expectations that any future employer will expect of them. This course is for students over 16 who are keen to progress to a Food and Beverage Supervisor role.  

This qualification provides you with a good understanding of a food and beverage supervisor’s role.  It provides the depth and knowledge and understanding required to run the front of house service in different operations such as a restaurant, a bistro, brasserie bar and specialist events.  You will also develop both hard and soft skills. 

Units delivered include: 
•    Supervise food and beverage service. 
•    Supervise Hospitality events. 
•    Prepare and serve wines. 
•    Barista 

If required, you may also be able to undertake the study of essential skills in Literacy, Numeracy, and ICT for those who have not achieved level 2 or equivalent in these subjects.

Entry criteria for this course are listed below:

  • Applicants’ qualifications must include GCSE English at Grade C/4 or above or equivalent (e.g., Essential Skills Literacy Level 2). 

Proof of qualifications MUST be provided when you enrol, e.g., exam certificates.

Achieved and pending qualifications can be recorded now by logging into your online application account.

All courses within Belfast Met are delivered and assessed in English, apart from language-specific courses. Your competence in English must be verified prior to enrolling on your chosen course.

Entry requirements can change and be discussed on an individual basis if necessary.

In the event of undersubscription, course criteria may be lowered.

All fees are set in accordance with DfE regulations.

This course tuition fee is fully funded by the Department for the Economy. 

Students are required to supply their own kit, approximate cost £110.00.  Lists of kit requirements will be given once student is enrolled.

Students are also required to contribute approximately £20 towards cost of educational visits.

Assessment

With a focus on the development of practical skills, you will be assessed on a continuous basis within a realistic working environment as well as through developing a portfolio of evidence.
