Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Uniformed Protective Services (603/5068/4)
Overview
This qualification replaces Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services.
This qualification is designed as a full-time, two-year programme of study for learners who want to focus on a career in the uniformed protective services sector, with the aim of progressing to higher education to a related degree course or into direct employment.
It will develop your abilities through the knowledge and skills gained in the programme and is suitable for learners who would like to know more about employment in uniformed public services. It also provides learners with realistic, work-based scenarios and projects, and facilitates links with local organisations such as the police, courts and prison service.
Equivalent to three A Levels. There are two examinations alongside coursework and projects which are marked internally.
The unit content provides a balance of breadth and depth, while retaining a degree of choice to study specialist subjects. In addition, the content is applied in a way that is relevant to local employment needs and relevant to local services.
The course involves visits, activities and individual research projects, as well as classroom based learning. An outdoor educational residential is a unique and exciting part of this course. You will develop a range of skills, techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life across a range of sectors.

4 GCSEs grades A* - C or equivalent.
Those students who have not achieved a grade C in English and Maths (or equivalent) will be required to study qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy.
This programme of study is likely to include enrichment units which are an additional component to enhance your employability.
Entry requirements are pre-defined by the College’s admissions criteria:
Students must be at least 16 years of age on or before 1 July 2024. Students must be well-motivated and have completed a programme of general education to Key Stage 4 which would enable them to benefit from and succeed on the course.
Students must have one of the following:
- Four GCSEs at Grade C or above (in some circumstances, applicants with a qualifications profile equating to 12 points with a minimum of three GCSEs at Grade C or above will be accepted).
- BTEC First Diploma or Certificate (with a qualification profile equivalent to 12 points or above).
- NVQ Level 2 in a relevant subject area.
- Leaving Certificate (a profile equivalent to 12 points of which three subjects must be at Grade C3 or above at ordinary level).

Materials Fee = £40.00
Fees are payable annually.
There is a £40 fee for the Outdoor Education Residential.
All fees are set in accordance with DfE regulations.
A combination of examinations, coursework assignments and projects.
Careers
Completion of the course will enable you, on successful recruitment through the relevant selection processes, to enter employment within the uniformed public services (Fire, Police, Air Force, Army, Royal Navy, Prison Services etc.) or to progress to higher education study, achieving a degree and leading to careers in policing, criminology, psychology or law.
