Overview
This is a two year part time course which is designed to attract students who want to progress into Higher Education within the Humanities and Social Science fields. This course will develop your knowledge and understanding and prepare you for Higher Education. Additional costs may be incurred for materials required for those taking the Maths option including a calculator and geometry set and those taking English for the required core texts.
About the course
Students will complete 5 core modules and one option from a selection. Subject to availability, Full Time students may study on one of the following pathways:
- History/English Literature
- Sociology/Psychology
Subject to availability, Part Time students may study on one of the following pathways:
- Sociology/Psychology (Evening)
- Sociology/Psychology (Day)
This programme of study is likely to include enrichment activities/module(s) to enhance your employability.
Assessment within these modules will range from essays, class tests, presentations and final examinations. All assessments are carried out in English.

College regulations stipulate that applicants to the Full Time pathways must:
- have been out of full-time education from at least June 2023
- have GCSE Grade C or above in English
- have GCSE Grade C or above in Mathematics (or equivalent numeracy qualification)

Coursework and Exam
Careers
Successful students have, in the past, progressed to study for degrees in a diverse range of subjects including History, Politics, Psychology, Sociology, English, Law, Social Work, Nursing and Education. Students who successfully complete the course may also progress to further and higher courses within Belfast Met, including HND and Foundation Degree programmes. Students must choose a specific pathway when applying and will complete six compulsory modules.
