Overview

This is a two-year programme which is equivalent to three A Levels. This programme of study is likely to include enrichment units which are an additional component to enhance your employability.

The college offers this course at Level 3 for students (equivalent to three A Levels) who wish to further their interest/studies in art and design and aim for a career in the creative industries, architecture, product/automotive design, illustration, animation, photography, digital drawing etc. Many students choose these courses rather than stay at school after GCSE in order to study in a vocationally relevant specialist environment. 

This pathway allows you to further your skills across a wide range of subjects including photography, painting, printmaking, textiles, ceramics and life drawing and provides an opportunity to consolidate your specialist pathway into higher education. Emphasis is on the development of drawing skills and photography. These skills are much valued requisites for higher studies in architecture, animation, book illustration, computer games design etc. Modules are delivered by a range of specialist, highly qualified, experienced tutors. 

The creative industries are one of the UK’s greatest success stories: artists, fashion brands, musicians and films are immediately recognisable in nations across the globe. Growing at almost twice the rate of the wider economy and worth a staggering £84 billion a year, the UK’s Creative Industries are thriving. Studying art and design provides you with knowledge in a variety of areas from photography to sculpture, 3D design to fashion, the diversity keeps students engaged and helps stretch creative minds. The skills you will learn will set you up for a variety of professions and the range of occupations that you can enter is vast. You could work in various aspects of design such as Graphic, Interior, Product, Fashion, Photography, 3D Design, Game and Media Design. A degree in Fine Arts can lead to a rewarding career creating art. Many artists have other jobs to support their working practice. Careers in Fine Art and Crafts include Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Photography, Textiles, and Installation. Many educators will obtain higher degrees in fine arts or general art studies to find the best careers.

Requirements

Enhanced entry criteria for this course is:

GCSE English (C grade) and Art (B grade) and a minimum of two more GCSEs at C grade or above.

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) for FE Courses

Assessment

Students are assessed using a range of different methods.

These includes exams, assignments, coursework, Project Based Learning, presentations, practical assessments, role-play, and case studies. 

This is dependent on the requirements of each unit of study.  Oral, written and online feedback will be provided during your course.
