Qualifications
City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating (501/1981/3)
Overview
This course is designed to give you the skills to gain employment in the plumbing sector. The course consists of theory and practical lessons. Once you have completed the practical training you will undertake a range of practical assessments and online examinations. The theory lessons cover a range on knowledge units. Learners will undertake a qualification which includes hot and cold water systems, copper pipe work, central heating installation, practical plumbing and installing/decommissioning/maintenance of plumbing systems. A series of written, online and practical test will be taken by the participants.

- Domestic central heating system
- Cold water systems
Applicants to the Apprenticeship programme MUST be employed in the Domestic Plumbing sector.
Pre-Entry Advice Sessions will take place on one of our campuses.
You must attend the Pre-Entry Advice Session for this course to ensure you have all the information you need to decide if this is the right course for you.
You will be required to complete an assessment (online or on paper) to check you are suited to this course.
You will receive an offer based on:
- the date and time of your application; and
- the results of your assessment.
If you do not pass this assessment, we will advise you on finding another suitable course.
Traineeship Route
Applicants must:
- Achieve 4 GCSE’s grade A-G with minimum GCSE Grade D in Mathematics and GCSE Grade D in English.
- All applicants must complete a paper based or online diagnostic assessment
- Applicants should endeavour to source a placement with an employer prior to enrolment on the course.
- Be capable of working at heights
- Not have any colour vision defects (evidence will be required)
Non-native speakers must provide evidence of competency in English Language.
Apprenticeship Route
Applicants must:
- Achieve 4 GCSE’s grade A-G with minimum GCSE Grade D in Mathematics and GCSE Grade D in English.
- All applicants must complete a paper based or online diagnostic assessment
- Applicants to the Apprenticeship programme MUST be employed in the Domestic Plumbing sector.
- Be capable of working at heights

Non-academic course entry requirements
Important: All applicants must also meet the following conditions:
· be 16 years old by 1 July 2026.
· provide proof of:
o Right to Study in the UK. For courses with work placement, proof of your right to work in the UK is also required.
o Photographic proof of identity
· Provide translated copies of and/or demonstrate equivalency of non-UK qualifications.

A combination of online exams and practical observations
Careers
Successful completion of this programme will enable employed students to progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing & Heating or employment in the plumbing sector.
