Overview
This 2 year course is designed to develop your practical skills and knowledge enabling you to work in the construction industry. This course has been developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions. Assessment is by internal testing, practical assignments and online examinations covering core and occupational units such as:
- First and second fix carpentry techniques
- Health, safety and welfare in woodworking occupations
- Interpreting construction drawings and information
- Maintain and use woodworking hand and power tools
- Setting, marking out and manufacturing of joinery products
- Understanding construction methods
- Practical woodworking project
Pre-Entry Advice Sessions will take place on one of our campuses.
You must attend the Pre-Entry Advice Session for this course to ensure you have all the information you need to decide if this is the right course for you.
You will receive an offer based on:
- the date and time of your application
- attendance at the Pre-Entry Advice Session
Traineeship Route
Applicants must
- Achieve 4 GCSEs grades A-G with a minimum
- GCSE grade D in Mathematics and
- GCSE grade E in English
- Endeavour to source a placement with an employer prior to enrolment on the course.
Applicants who do not meet the minimum entry requirements in Mathematics and English will be provided with advice regarding suitable alternative courses and may be offered a place on a suitable bridging programme.
On successful completion of the bridging programme, students will be eligible to apply to study primarily on a Level 2 course, providing they meet the entry criteria for that programme.
Non-native speakers must provide evidence of competency in English Language.
Apprenticeship Route
Applicants must
- Achieve 4 GCSEs grades A-G with a minimum
- GCSE grade D in Mathematics and
- GCSE grade E in English
Applicants to the Apprenticeship programme MUST BE employed as an apprentice joiner.
Non-native speakers must provide evidence of competency in English Language.
Mixture of online examinations and practical assessments in the workshop
Careers
Successful completion of this programme will enable employed learners to progress to the Level 3 Apprenticeship.
Carpenters and Joiners
Carpenters and Joiners specialise in installing floors, walls and roofing systems. Fitting and installing trims, doors, stairs, moulding and hardware. Reading and interpreting plans, drawings and sketches. With most construction roles you can be employed by building companies, building contractors or start your own business.
