Overview
This 2 year course is designed for those who wish to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in bricklaying. It covers the following areas:
• Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
• Construction cavity walling
• Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structure
The course consists of theory and practical lessons. Once you have completed the practical training, you will undertake a range of practical assessments and online examinations. In addition the course will cover Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT (if required). Industry placement is a compulsory element of the programme and you will be expected to attend placement.

Traineeship Route
Applicants must:
Have achieved 4 GCSEs grades A-G with a minimum
- GCSE grade D in Mathematics and
- GCSE grade E in English
Endeavour to source a placement with an employer prior to enrolment on the course.
Applicants who do not meet the minimum entry requirements in Mathematics and English will be provided with advice regarding suitable alternative courses and may be offered a place on a suitable bridging programme.
On successful completion of the bridging programme, students will be eligible to apply to study primarily on a Level 2 course, providing they meet the entry criteria for that programme.
Non-native speakers must provide evidence of competency in English Language.
Apprenticeship Route
Applicants must:
Have achieved 4 GCSEs grades A-G with a minimum
- GCSE grade D in Mathematics and
- GCSE grade E in English
Have secured employment as an apprentice bricklayer.
Non-native speakers must provide evidence of competency in English Language.
Learners are assessed through a combination of online tests/technical questions and practical assessment
Careers
Successful completion of this programme will enable employed students to progress to the Level 3 Apprenticeship/FE programme or employment in the bricklaying industry.
