The Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing will develop your knowledge and skills in gym instruction to enable you to pursue a career as a gym instructor. This qualification will provide a combination of knowledge and skills to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes to a range of clients.

This one semester programme will enable you to gain employment in the health and fitness industry or develop your career as a fitness professional.

  • Professionalism and Customer Care for Fitness Instructors

Non-academic course entry requirements

Important: All applicants must also meet the following conditions:

  • be 16 years old by 1 July 2026
  • provide proof of: 
  • Right to Study in the UK. For courses with work placement, proof of your right to work in the UK is also required. 
  • Photographic proof of identity 
  • Provide translated copies of and/or demonstrate equivalency of non-UK qualifications.

Requirements are pre-defined by the College's admissions criteria

Students should be aged 16 plus and ideally some experience of gym-based exercises including resistance training.

Students should be fit enough to cope with physical exertion and individual participation involved in the course.

There is a significant level of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should be competent & have fluency in written, speaking and reading English, and be computer literate as there are posters to complete. Students need to have the required competence to complete work at home in the form of written worksheets or revising for an exam for the duration of the course.

Please note there is 1 group practical assessment and 1 individual practical assessment to be undertaken. There is also a client consultation assessment completed in class or on a 1-1 basis.

Assessment is through a range of practical observations, exam, case studies/ worksheets and a portfolio.
