IMI Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles (VRQ) (500/9818/4)
Overview
This 2 year course is designed for those who wish to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the motor industry.
It’s a fact of modern life that things and people need to move from place to place, safely and efficiently. Whether you drive them, fix them, build them or coordinate their safe arrival at a host of national and international locations, vehicles could be your ticket to hundreds of fulfilling career possibilities in the motor industry.
Traineeship Route
Applicants must:
Have achieved 4 GCSEs grades A-G with a minimum
- GCSE grade D in Mathematics and
- GCSE grade E in English
Endeavour to source a placement with an employer prior to enrolment on the course.
All applicants must complete a paper based or online diagnostic assessment.
Non-native speakers must provide evidence of competency in English Language.
Apprenticeship Route
Applicants must:
Have achieved 4 GCSEs grades A-G with a minimum
- GCSE grade D in Mathematics and
- GCSE grade D in English
Be employed as an apprentice in the Motor Vehicle repair sector.
All applicants must complete a paper based or online diagnostic assessment.
Non-native speakers must provide evidence of competency in English Language.
Non-academic course entry requirements
Important: All applicants must also meet the following conditions:
· be 16 years old by 1 July 2026.
· provide proof of:
o Right to Study in the UK. For courses with work placement, proof of your right to work in the UK is also required.
o Photographic proof of identity
· Provide translated copies of and/or demonstrate equivalency of non-UK qualifications.

Assessment is a combination of online exam and practical observations.
Careers
Successful completion of this programme will enable employed students to progress to the Level 3 Apprenticeship programme or employment in the motor vehicle industry.
