OCN NI Level 2 Certificate in Transversal Skills (L2 Applied Science) (610/1466/7)
Overview
This is a one-year, full-time programme during which you will develop understanding, knowledge and practical skills in relation to the science industry. The programme will provide a good foundation knowledge of applied science subjects and practical experience. The programme blends theoretical knowledge with practical application, providing hands-on experience through workshops and real-world projects. Your learning will be supported by external visits to local industries and science exhibitions, and you will have the opportunity to enter STEM competitions. You will be assessed by a combination of written assignments, practical work, industrial experience and project-based learning. In the OCN Level 2, they are planning online exam components.
In addition to the knowledge and technical modules you will develop wider skills essential for employment, with dedicated support to achieve Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy, along with Transversal Skills.
Key aspects of study:
The Traineeship programme will provide an opportunity for you to achieve the following key elements:
• A main Level 2 vocational based qualification (with modules that include; Life Processes and Living Things, Physical processes, Chemical Analysis and Detection, The Living Body, Exploring our universe, Materials and their Chemical Properties)
• Vocational skills development
• Transversal and digital skills
• Work placement/Simulation
• Literacy and Numeracy qualifications up to Level 2 (may include GCSE qualifications in English and Mathematics)

Four GCSEs Grades D-G
- including at least Grade D in Maths or Essential Skills Level 1 in Numeracy
- including at least Grade D in English or Essential Skills Level 1 in Literacy
Non-native speakers must provide evidence of competency in English Language (minimum of Essential Skills Level 1 in Literacy)
Non-academic course entry requirements
Important: All applicants must also meet the following conditions:
· be 16 years old by 1 July 2026.
· Provide proof of:
o Right to Study in the UK. For courses with work placement, proof of your right to work in the UK is also required.
o Photographic proof of identity
· Provide translated copies of and/or demonstrate equivalency of non-UK qualifications.

• Written work (to include essay, posters, leaflets and reports)
• Online examinations
• Group work
• Practical work

• Work Experience

Entry level employment in the science sector.

The college also offers a Higher Education pathway in the form of a Level 4 in Applied Science.
