Overview
Our music courses are designed to provide our students with working knowledge, understanding and expertise of performance and production, in order that they can find their place and make their mark in the music industry. On all our courses, students will gain practical experience working in a recording studio, using live sound equipment and using a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), in addition to theoretical support in each unit. Students will have an opportunity to perform to public audiences in venues across the city and beyond, and to run their own events.
With Belfast's newfound status as a UNESCO City of Music, there has never been a better time to study music at Belfast Met. Despite the COVID -19 pandemic, the UK as a whole contributed £3.1bn in 2020 and whilst some areas of the music economy have been affected, other areas of the industry such as media composition are experiencing rapid growth. We give our students the necessary skills and knowledge to adapt and thrive in this evolving landscape.
This exciting course will challenge you to be creative, think outside the box and open your ears to new approaches to the creation of sound and music. This course is designed for students who want to work as music producers, studio or live sound engineers or within the wider creative technologies sector. You should be a performing musician, aspiring electronic music producer or studio engineer who wants to learn more about both the practical and theoretical aspects of sound.
This two-year course of study with modules, each specialising in a particular area of music or music technology from recording, composition and performance to acoustics, the music industry, music theory and the principles of electronic audio. You will have access to a recording studio and two suites of computers running Pro Tools and Ableton Live. Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to create original music and perform at events and competitions.
