International Success for Belfast Met Boxers in Portugal
Belfast Met Boxing Academy has returned from the prestigious Portimão Box Cup in Portugal with an impressive medal haul, including two gold medals and two bronze medals.
Held from 29–31 May 2026, the Portimão Box Cup is one of Europe's leading international boxing tournaments, attracting more than 1,000 boxers from across the world. Competing against some of the sport's most talented young athletes, Belfast Met's six-strong team delivered a series of outstanding performances on the international stage.
Leading the way were Lee Largey Snoddon and Finley Okoro, who both claimed gold medals after impressive runs through their respective competitions. Finley secured a knockout victory in his opening bout before defeating a highly skilled Spanish opponent in the final, while Lee demonstrated exceptional composure and technical ability to secure gold.
Logan Smyth and James Rooney also enjoyed strong tournaments, each earning bronze medals. Competing in his first international event, Logan produced an excellent performance to reach the semi-finals, while James showcased tremendous determination and skill, including a victory over a multiple-time Serbian champion.
Owen Wasnidge and Jak McLaughlin also represented Belfast Met with distinction, gaining valuable experience at one of Europe's most competitive boxing events.
The Academy's success reflects the hard work and commitment of both athletes and coaches.
