Qualifications

ILM level 5 Certificate in Operational Leadership Management Skills
Day of week: Wednesday

Overview

As the modern working world evolves through the impact of technology and automation and with the advent of hybrid working practices, leadership development must evolve with it.

ILM has recently undergone a significant review of its qualifications and has now launched its new suite of Leadership & Management qualifications at Levels 2–5 which they have built for flexibility, relevance, and real-world impact.

The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Operational Leadership and Management Skills represents a fundamental shift in how this qualification is taught and assessed. Targeting middle managers and departmental heads, it takes a holistic view of human-centred leadership with a focus on strategic planning and leading innovation and change.

The programme supports managers to critically evaluate their own leadership approach, lead teams across different contexts, manage their resources more effectively and contribute to innovation and change within their organisation. Learning is grounded in recognised leadership and management theory, but always applied to real workplace challenges, enabling managers to improve confidence, decision‑making and impact within their role.

The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Operational Leadership and Management Skills at Belfast Met combines the following modules:

·         Assessing Own Leadership Performance

·         Managing Resources

·         Leading People and Organisational Culture

·         Leading Innovation and Change

Together, these modules provide a coherent programme that develops self‑awareness, operational management, people leadership, and the skills required to lead improvement in the workplace. This qualification is particularly suited to middle managers, including those who are newly appointed or preparing to take on greater responsibility. Learners typically manage teams / projects and operational activity.

The programme will be delivered using a blend of face-to-face classes and online sessions, making it manageable alongside full‑time employment. This structured yet flexible approach enables learners to build their portfolio progressively over the duration of the course, supported by tutor guidance and peer discussion, while directly applying learning to their day‑to‑day management responsibilities.

Please read our Terms and Conditions before applying for or enrolling on any of our courses.
